Edinburgh Shore Excursion
Edinburgh Shore Excursion
Leaving the port, our first stop is the Royal Yacht Britannia, the former royal yacht of the British monarchy, in service from 1954 to 1997.
You can choose to board the ship as an optional extra and explore the spaces where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip spent their voyages, or spend the time exploring Ocean Terminal or The Shore, a picturesque historic area in the heart of Old Leith, the port town absorbed into Edinburgh in 1920.
We'll then head into the heart of Edinburgh for a tour of the city center and the Old Town, including a scenic drive past the Palace of Holyrood House, the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland since the 16th century, and home to many significant royal events throughout history.
From there, we'll travel up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle, perched dramatically atop Castle Rock since the Iron Age. Entrance is an optional extra. Those who go inside will explore its historic halls, see the Half Moon Battery where the famous One O'Clock Gun is fired, and discover treasures including the Honours of Scotland. Those who prefer to stay outside can explore Castlehill, the city's oldest street, wander the atmospheric closes and alleyways running off the Royal Mile, or visit St Giles' Cathedral.
We'll then take a relaxed drive through the elegant New Town, admiring its Georgian townhouses and Neoclassical architecture before heading back to the port, arriving after a total of around 6.5 hours.
